Precision Rectifiers and Peak Detectors:
The precision rectifier, also known as a super diode, is a configuration obtained with an operational amplifier so that a circuit behaves like an ideal diode and rectifier. It is useful for high precision signal processing.
Peak detectors
With a slight modification, the basic precision rectifier can be used to detect signal level spikes. In the following circuit, a capacitor holds the maximum voltage level of the signal and a switch is used to reset the sensed level. When the input Vin exceeds Vc (voltage across the capacitor), the diode is forward biased and the circuit becomes a voltage follower.
